I was asked by three young students who are currently carrying out a project on the subject of diversity in the field of media and communication management. They asked me if I wanted to share my experiences with them through a photo and interview. The aim is to identify different types and personalities who may have special visual characteristics in the areas of beauty ideals as well as diversity.
Of course, I was there immediately :)
Interviewer:
What does beauty mean to you?
Selina:
For me, beauty means character first and foremost. Interesting characters who have a life story to tell are beautiful. People who radiate from within, but also those with whom one may first have to sit down and talk to understand where they come from and why they are as they are. All this results in an overall package of beauty, which is a matter of definition anyway and which every human being interprets differently.
Interviewer:
Your skin is a special optical feature. How do you deal with comments on this?
Selina:
There are very few comments, rather a staring or a silence. Comments are dear to me.
Interviewer:
Have there ever been any negative comments? If so, how do you deal with it?
Selina:
Luckily I never had negative comments about my Vitiligo. Rather ignorant stupid comments in which people, for example claim in front of me I would have burned myself, or that I would have been really pretty without these spots... where I think, Hello... I'm right next to you, could you please talk to me or ask me before you say stupid things like this!
Interviewer:
Have you always had such a positive and open handling of your skin?
Selina:
Actually, yes, I have always had a positive handling of my skin, my spots. Maybe that's because I never had to experience being teased. On the contrary, everyone always found me very sweet :)
But of course it also brings with it pitfalls for a self, such as for example in the summer, where I can hardly lie down in the sun without paying attention to the fact that my spots turn red, because the skin there is very sensitive and even with a sun protection factor of 50 a sunburn arises in a very short time and is pre-programmed. Even I catch myself hiding my spots often, despite my great self-confidence.
Interviewer:
What tips can you give on self-love?
Selina:
Love yourself first each and every day... This is a matter of mindset and can also be learned. Everyone is a blacksmith of their luck and it all depends in life on whether you really want something. If you can dream it you can do it! Believe in yourself and you can achieve EVERYTHING in life you want ;)
Interviewer:
In which areas do you want more acceptance?
Selina:
Difficult question, that is I think a barrel without bottom...
Interviewer:
We develop a concept for a makeup line with the main theme of inclusion. How important is cosmetics to you?
Selina:
Cosmetics is a wonderful thing and fortunately we have advanced in the cosmetics industry today so that you can support all the different skin types with their needs.
