June has arrived, and as we welcome a new month to the year, we take a moment to recognise what it stands for; A time to shed light on Vitiligo, to spread love and awareness, inclusivity and to educate those with and without.
For over 20 years I didn't know that there was a whole month dedicated to people who struggle with the skin disorder Vitiligo. I found out when I began to follow pages relating to Vitiligo on instagram - searching for inspiration and others who I could identify with.
Knowing that only 1% of the world has vitiligo, means that there are 99% of people who don't have it and may not know about it. After years of knowing about Vitiligo Awareness Month, I began to identify the month as an opportunity to advocate for others, post information, and anything to do with vitiligo. Sharing peoples activism, art and inspirational stories has assisted me with keeping connected and acknowledging others around the globe - and has given others the opportunity to be heard and seen. It has become a special time of a year for me. A time to reflect on the 24 years of journeys and struggles, to reflect on the battles faced and survived and to notice all the beauty around us.
Vitiligo Awareness Month gives us all a moment to celebrate our achievements despite the setbacks thrown at us. To celebrate and give thanks to the love and support that we have around us, and to pray for those who are struggling through their journey in life. To have this month, is to extend a global hand of connectivity and oneness; we notice you, you are loved and welcome here ♡ ♥♡ ♥
So beautiful vitiligans, parents and friends of vitiligans, share with us what this month means to you and we will share your responses on our Instagram page! We would also be happy to answer any questions you might have! :)
Did you know there is a WORLD VITILIGO DAY?! Stay tuned for the next blog to find out all about it! 🤭
